SOPHIA XU, 16

Sophia Yunwen Xu is currently studying the piano with Jason Bae. Last year she participated in the semi-finals of the NZ Junior Piano Competition. She has won many prizes in local competitions including the North Shore, South Auckland, West Auckland and Hamilton Competitions. While studying in Vancouver, Canada, she was awarded first prizes in the Kiwanis Music Festival and Richmond Music Festival. Sophia takes an active part in music at Macleans College: she was a cast member in the school musical this year, and played the piano for the school’s Cabaret production.

Sophia is also interested in other performing arts disciplines and participated in the Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ National Festival in Wellington last June. In her spare time, Sophia enjoys reading, programming, looking after her two chickens and gardening.
